I got the opportunity to host the first Christmas party of the season this evening, and it was such fun! Each year my book club (formally called "How Novel", but informally and for reasons that don't make much sense, called "Gertrude") chooses the meeting date closest to the holidays for our annual party so we can discuss that month's book and enjoy some Christmas fun together. This month we've read "The Art of Racing in the Rain" by Garth Stein on my recommendation, which means that the job of hosting the Christmas book club falls to me - yahoo! In addition to talking about the novel we share a lovely pot-luck meal, pass around cards and little tokens (book marks are a popular choice), and participate in a "snatch and grab" style Secret Santa book exchange. Each time this group of women get together we have a wonderful time, but the Christmas meeting is always one of the most special gatherings - and with the party happening fairly early this year it's a wonderful way to officially kick off the Christmas season!
